Pulau Bangka - Blue Bay Divers

Bangka is located at the norther tip of North-Sulawesi in Indonesia, accessible via Manado. It is a very interesting alternative to Bunaken or Lembeh Straits.

The Blue Bay Divers resort is setting on its own in a small island called Sahaung, simple yet cozy, with a touch of luxury within simplicity.

The diving style is typical to the region, using traditional wooden boats, looking for rare macro stuff and enjoying at the same time oceanic pinnacles covered with life.

Pictures shot in June 2019 with Nikon D800e, 105 mm f/2.8 VR micro lens, Aquatica housing and 2 x Inon Z-240 strobes.

Alor - Kepa island

The Alor Archipelago is a very remote place located at the eastern Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia. You access it via local flights to the city of Kalabahi.

An option for diving there is La Petite Kepa, a small and very simple resort located on the Kepa island.

Alor offers both stunning clear waters diving along walls or pristine reefs, and muck diving in the Kalabahi bay where exquisite critters such as rhinopias or rare nudibranch are very common.

Pictures shot in September 2014 with Nikon D800, various macro and wide angle lenses, Sea&Sea housing and 2 x Ikelite 200 strobes.

Bunaken Island

Probably the most famous dive spot in North-Sulawesi, with almost direct access from Manado city, Bunaken is a magic island where marine life seem to endlessly celebrate a permanent festival of lights and colours.

The location also has a special part in my hearth as it is where I really started my photography, in 1998, thanks to the former Froggies Divers resort, lead by late Christiane Muller, who was an exceptionnaly passionate and enthusiastic character.

Diving there is in clear blue waters, most of the time along walls with no bottom, with a permanent "confusion" in searching for small macro stuff on the wall and keeping an eye in the blue for bigger passing fishes or huge turtles.

Special note about the "discovery" in 2003 of the Hippocampus pontohi, a new species of pigmy seahorses hardly higher than 1.6 cm.

These pictures shot in May 2019 using ony RX-100 and Olympus TG-5 compact cameras, using +10 SubSee magnifier and Inon UWL100 wide angle wet lens, together Inon Z-240 strobes.

Visual Diving expo 2014

This special gallery is a selection of 15 best shots from my underwater works between 2010 and 2014, first time using digital SLR underwater.

Locations are Raja Ampat, Bunaken, Lembeh Straits and North-Sulawesi island.

Each mage is printed in 50 x 50 cm, framed in black and where exhibited in a Gallery in Paris in 2014 - Available for any exhibition upon request

Pictures shot with Nikon D200, using 60 mm f/2.8 micro and 17-35 mm f/2.8 wide angle lenses, Sea&Sea housing and 2 x Ikelite 200 strobes.

Absolute Matter

These are my very first photographic works, shot in the early 1990's, using Ilford HP5 or Kodak T-Max film in sexy metal Nikon bodies, film processing done by hand.

Locations are generally in France or nearby Europe. Some of them have been awarded at the "Salon des Artistes Français".

Pictures shot with Nikon FM2 or FE, Nikkor 24 mm f/2.8 or Nikkor 180 mm IF-ED f/2.8.

The Kranji Countryside

These photos are extracted from the book The Kranji Countryside: Soul of Singapore, by Carolyn Ortega and myself, published by the Kranji Countryside Association (KCA) in 2016.

The KCA is a non-profit organization that promotes local agriculture, food security and sustainability, education, conservation, agri-tainment and agri-tourism. This book was launched in conjunction with the 27th Commonwealth Agriculture Conference held for the first time in Singapore in November that same year (see the "A Tour Through Kranji’s Urban Farms In One Book" article in guide.michelin.com).

Pictures shot with Nikon D800, Nikkor 17-38 mm f/2.8 or Nikkor 80-200 mm IF-ED f/2.8.
